  • V. 2.3 LMS updates?

Awhile ago, I followed instructions on this forum and added some lines of code to 2.3 that checked the fedora squeezebox community for LMS updates each time I ran an upgrade routine. About once a week since then, I have run the upgrade routine and most times my LMS version has updated as part of that process.

However, the upgrade function seems to have stopped working in recent weeks. It has been over a month since the LMS last updated.

Has something broken on my VB or have there not been new LMS versions for that long? Everything seems to be working okay with the last version, but I am concerned whenever functions change their behavior.

Thanks for any information you can provide.

nothing is broken. there is nothing to update as V2.3 is old enough now that there are no new updates. there is a newer version (V2.4). But unless you need something special or need to do a new install, not likely worth updating (updating to 2.4 requires a complete reinstall, including music files).

Gary, thanks, but I must have been unclear. I was not referring to the Vortexbox software itself. I was referring only to the Logitech Media Server application.

Until recently, because I added some instructions posted at this forum, I was able to update the LMS application by clicking on the "start upgrade" button. For the last month or so, nothing happens when I click on that button.

I was asking only if there is a reason why the LMS application no longer updates after a couple of years of at least one update per week. I agree that that I have no reason to upgrade the Vortexbox software itself.

The LMS vortexbox is using has not been updated in a while, so most likely there is nothing to do. But seems like it should tell you that rather than just do nothing. I'm not sure because I update my LMS outside the Vortexbox approach so I can use a newer version that the vortexbox version (LMS 7.9).

If you want the absolute latest and greatest LMS version for your 2.3 Vortexbox you could go to the Wiki FAQ and follow the instructions on how to pull down the LMS 7.9 Nightly Update.

          http://wiki.vortexbox.org/how_to_ins...repo_on_vb_2.3

One thing must be Noted though, these are the latest and greatest version of LMS 7.9 and usually have the most features and most bug fixes in them, but it also means that they have not been thoroughly tested by the masses so a bug fix could cause another bug to show and/or possibly even be a broken version. Back in the day when I was Beta testing Slim Devices Hardware, Firmware, and the Nightly LMS update, there would be a broken LMS release every once in a while but it was usually immediately caught by those of us signed up to pull down the Nightly's. I don't know how things are today so I can't comment, but my thought is that almost all if not actually all current Nightly releases would probably be stable because new Slim Devices products are not being added so updates most likely only resolve known bugs and include feature updates and requests.

Good points. And yes, new betas these days are adding a feature or fixing something. Recent 7.9 versions have dealt with the http vs https issue in playing some radio stations and podcasts.

Just recently Logitech actually released an offiicial LMS 7.9 It is here.
            http://downloads.slimdevices.com/Log...Server_v7.9.0/

Now nightlies/betas are 7.9.1, etc. and are here:

Thanks, guys. This is the update routine that I use. Unfortunately, it no longer returns an update. That is why I posted.my question.

Transporter, have you run this script in the last month or so? If you have, when is the last date on which you got an update installed?

If you are getting updates and I am not, I will have to review my script and see if it has gotten corrupted or something.

I update my one 2.3 Vortexbox about once a Quarter so the last time was in January. All my other Vortexboxes are running 2.3. I'll be at the cabin this weekend and see what version I am running and do an update and see what happens. By the way, what current build are your running? In LMS go to Settings then the Information Tab and the first line has the version of LMS, followed by the Build Number, followed by the date of that Build.

I just remotely logged into the server at my cabin. I am current running LMS 7.9 on my 2.3 Vortexbox at that location. From the Settings, Information Tab:

                  Logitech Media Server Version: 7.9.0 - 0.150.20161204git1480516903 @ Sun Dec 4 22:31:21 GMT 2016

This would be from the early January 2017 update, looks like its four months old. What are other people with 2.3 Vortexbox showing as latest LMS 7.9 update (excluding Nightly's)?

Transporter, the version is Logitech Media Server Version: 7.9.0 - 0.150.20161204git1480516903 @ Sun Dec 4 22:31:21 GMT 2016..

                    Same as yours.

Looks as though there are no current updates. Thanks for this information!

Cool beans! The only way to get something newer would be from the Nightly's that just started releasing LMS 7.9.1 builds. We should be good for now.

I don't know how to update to 7.9.1, actually. Using that script is the only way I ever have updated LMS on the Vortexbox. Is there a tutorial for manual updates of which you are aware?

Best option is to remove all the code you added and just press the update button. We have the latest LMS in the VortexBox 2.4 repo. If you don't have VortexBox 2.4 install that first.

The Repo's don't contain Nightly's or Beta's (other then MakeMKV which is only a Beta, but not really), the Repo's have the latest and greatest stable Production releases.
