  • [Firmware Bug]: TSC_DEADLINE disabled due to Errata; please update microcode

Vortexbox wouldn't start - hooked a monitor up and saw [Firmware Bug]: TSC_DEADLINE disabled due to Errata; please update microcode to version: 0x22 (or later)

After a bit of searching I found a reference to Intel microcode being out of date.

First I updated the motherboard bios, but that didn't help. Then I found reference to "sudo dnf install microcode_ctl", so after a few attempts I got to the prompt and was able to
log in as root and enter the command dnf install microcode_ctl - and after a reboot it was fixed.

Found another problem, while the Vortexbox started, the disk light stayed on for about 20 minutes and the response was very slow.

Hooked up the monitor, again, booted and saw a message about disk checking.

So, a quick search for "Fedora - how to check a disk smart"pulled up a link -
    https://linuxconfig.org/how-to-check...using-smartctl .

    I installed the tools -
    dnf install smartmontools

and ran a check on my 3 drives, -
smartctl -a /dev/sda then sdb and sdc

/dev/sdb showed it was on the way out,
    Reallocated_Sector_Ct was 80 something thousand and Current_Pending_Sector was 39000.

So I replaced the disk and used my instructions https://www.vortexbox.org/forum/supp...sd-data-on-hdd to rebuild.
