Vortexbox intermittent output

Hello fellow travellers.

I have an old Vortexbox/LivZen (precursor to Innuos) CD ripper Server, which has been my main work horse for last 8 years ( I know it is quite old)

It was running LMS V2.2 and connected to Gustard 9x DAC via USB.

I use my laptop (Windows 7) to control the Vortexbox/ LMS via WiFi

Vortexbox is connected directly to Wifi/internet router via CAT cable.

It stopped working couple months ago, so I sent it to local Vortexbox agent who installed LMS version 2.4

However, I am experiencing this peculiar problem of Vortexbox not sending/ DAC not receiving the signal sometimes - when first starting up - let me explain.

When I switch on the entire system and then start playing music - LMS (on my laptop) shows that music is playing - but no sound.

So I have to switch off the router, DAC and Vortexbox, disconnect the power cables and then leave for 5-10 minutes reconnect everything and then hit play - voila working again.

The next day the same routine - first time no sound, switch off, disconnect , reconnect , switch on....music playing again....!

Any idea why the system is behaving like this...?

I think this is an unlikely solution, but just to rule it out, can you connect your WiFi laptop instead to an Ethernet cable for a few days just to see if the problem still exists?

sometimes a failing ethernet cable causes intermittent signals. try a new cable between router and vortexbox
