  • Absolute beginner - No sound!

I finally got VB2.4 installed this weekend and I've been ripping up a storm! That was actually my main interest in VB; an automated ripping station, just add CDs.
The platform I'm using is an aOpen DE7000 Digital Station. Very compact and silent. I have no other devices like Squeezeboxes or other appliances. Out of curiosity I downloaded an app on my phone (Squeezer) and shows my tracks, but no sound comes out... Is this what's expected? The PC has a soundcard, but I'm more interested in the streaming, rather than playing locally.

    What am I missing?

Sorry if this is too basic, and thank you in advance for the responses.

The vortexbox is a server. You also need a player. That player could be a hardware squeezebox (which you don't have). But you could have a software squeezebox. This is called squeezelite (and it can run on the same computer running vortexbox). But you have to set it up. Then you need to have the audio outs of the computer's soundcard (or a DAC attached to USB port of computer) to something that amplifies the music. Bottom line, you're serving music but you haven't setup anything to receive and *play* the music.

Got it! Thank you for the explanation! I thought the app I downloaded was a player, but in reality it is just a "Remote Control". I saw there are several android player apps, which I'll have to try..
      For now, I'll keep ripping!

Yes, and it is a great remote and player. It does only work on Apple iOS devices.

I'm on Android. I've been looking into SqueezePlayer (https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...zeplayer&hl=en) and Squeezer for control (https://play.google.com/store/apps/d...squeezer&hl=en)

            Any other better apps?

Really, the best App to use with Vortexbox and LMS is hands down Peng 9.0. One solution would be to purchase a used iPad and then download iPeng 9.0. The iPad makes a great Controller and also a Player. Have a look at http://penguinlovesmusic.de for more details. And the bonus is that it is a great excuse to purchase an iPad!

You could try the OrangeSqueeze controller as well. It is my favorite on the Android platform. It integrates very well with SqueezePlayer.
