MPD and Vortexbox Player keep crashing simultaneously (segmentation faults)

Hi I'm new to the forum but have used it in the past to check on common. However I have run into a problem with my vortexbox which is baffling and can't solve without some help.

I'm running an original Vortexbox (bought 2011), with Fedora 11 and Vortexbox SW version 1.5. Been running well generally.

However recently I pushed it too hard and it suffered a bit of a breakdown so when I rebooted I had lost a lot of the Squeezebox settings, so clearly some damage done. This was fixable. However more alarming was that the mpd and Vortexbox Player (which I use for the kitchen) both suffer regular segmentation faults now. It's not random however. They only crashes when I am playing 24-bit 96 kHz FLACs (which I use when recording my vinyl). The CD quality or 16-bit 48 kHz files are fine and never crashed the mpd. And it's not just random, even then. It appears to crash most frequently when playing albums or playlists with short (i.e. less than 5 minutes) tracks (when it was happening for every track). It almost never crashes for albums with tracks of longer than 10 mins. The last three crashes were as follows (from the messages log):

This occurred when playing a playlist with a mixture of CD and 24-bit albums of generally long duration - this was unexpected as it crashed at the beginning of a 14 minute 24-bit 96 kHz track

This was the 2nd track from an album of 5+ min tracks (All 24-bit 96 kHz). My wife gave up after this!

This one was when playing a dynamic playlist with a mixture of CD and 24-bit 96 kHz tracks (generally shorter tracks). Crashed on the first encounter with a 24-bit track. On restarting Vortexbox Player seemed OK with other 24-bit tracks it encountered. I notice this was an error 5 rather than 4 - significant?

I haven't found any other logs which provide corroborative information at the same time as the crashes.

I'm conscious that I haven't upgraded this old system since I got it. Not willing to try that unless only option as otherwise is working just fine. All my music files are backed up on other disks.

The Squeezebox Touch in the living room has no issues at all.

Any help/useful advice would be most welcome
