I picked up a Lenovo M57 very cheap. It has a 250GB Windows 10 OS drive, DVD Burner, 4GB Ram, 64bit Dual Core I5 processor.
It will not boot from USB. There is no option in the BIOS or the secondary boot order assignment that one can force the PC to at startup that is not BIOS. From forced startup choice I have Boot from Network, CD-Rom, and Drive One which are all not USB. From Bios, I have boot from CD-Rom drive, the SSD drive I installed and hard drive. Turning UEFI off and going to Legacy in BIOS, I have boot from Floppy (there is no Floppy Drive installed), CD-Rom, and hard drive. It does not see the SSD drive anymore and there is still no USB selection from a PC with 8 USB ports.
Now for the really stage part: I wanted to make sure the PC was OK so I booted it off the 250GB Windows 10 it came with and it boots fine, BIOS still shows no USB boot as available. Removed the Windows 10 drive, installed a 2TB blank drive, and booted from Ubuntu 18.04 Live in the CD-Rom drive. Boots up fine, I instruct it to put 18.04 on the 2TB drive as the OS. It starts, asks me all the usual Ubuntu questions, installs, pulls down ALL the updates, finishes, says reject the 18.04 Live CD and reboot. I eject the CD and reboot. It starts to boot and then goes directly to the Network Booting screen saying there is no Boot Drive. That fails because it is not on a Network with a Boot Server, so it says press any key to boot off Drive One. I press the Any Key that fails and after 5 attempts tries to Boot from Network again.
Should I even bother trying to put 2.3 or 2.4 on a CD-Rom to see if I leave it in Legacy if I can get it to boot off a drive after CD-Rom install?
