  • New router and modem - IP Address

    I recently had to change my Shaw router / modem and when i did this I lost connection to my Vortexbox ...i'm guessing the IP address thing aren't matching up??? When i type in the old IP address i just get a note "Failed to open page"...I've logged onto the router but i don't see anything that resembles the vortexbox and even if i did i wouldn't know what to do with it...(does that make sense?)

    Originally the vortexbox / system was set up in my house by a third party company but i do not want to be reliant on them any more so i was thinking of reinstalling the vortexbox on my own and therefore have full control...thoughts???

    I should mention i have a display hooked up to the vortexbox and i do get the Log in command and the password command but i have no idea what those would be....i've tried admin and vortexbox but nothing happens


    I should also note i'm really new to this ... so talk slowly

    Download an “ip scanner app for your iPhone or iPad and use it to discover the IP address of your Vortexbox or type ifconfig at the Vortexbox command prompt.

    Then put the new IP address in your web browser to access your Vortexbox ?

        Thanks bart....this looks promising, I'll have to go through it in detail tonight

        Not sure if it will be a problem but the only thing I see on the monitor that's plugged into the Vortexbox is the prompt for me to enter my username and then password....both of which I don't know...

        BUT I'll give this stuff a once over and see if i can make any sense of it - cheers

          well i'm no further ahead
          so on the monitor i have hooked up directly to the vortexbox i only have login and password. no other prompt

              So you have to login...
              When nothing was changed during initial setup > Login as root, password vortexbox.

              Plug a monitor and USB keyboard into the VortexBox. Hit the Enter key one or more times. You should get a login: prompt. Login as root, password vortexbox. If you installed VortexBox yourself from the VortexBox iso, you may have specified a different password than vortexbox. If so, use the password you specified.
              If you lost/forgot your password it should be easy to reset/set a new password (as root) thru the command-line, but when user was changed I do not know the commands to help you (they do exist but you have to search the fedora tutorials around the web).

              You can try what Doris already suggested (ip-scanner) but if the IP Address range changed with the new router, I don't know If anything outside this range/table is detected,
              As a last resort perform complete reinstall (this will wipe your Vortexbox, so you'll need a good Back-up)

                An “IP Scanner” should work since a static IP address was most probably never set by Parsonsk and the new IP address will be in range of the new router ... I have just out of curiosity scanned with an ip scanner at a casino and pulled in at least 100’s of ip addresses!

                Parsonsk when using the “IP Scanner” try every IP address that you find displayed by the scanner (in your web browser) except the router.

                Parsonsk you should look for an ip address titled “new host” if logged into the router.

                How many network devices are connected to your router are you using a network switch as well?

                Below in the following post is a screenshot of a iPhone downloadable “ip Network Scanner” download and use to find your Vortexbox IP address then place it in your web browser.

                    Doris1997 I tend to differ, otherwise there should be no problem detecting the Vortexbox in a network.

                      Hmm, how do we get images to show in this forum?
                      I see my attached images on my laptop, but not those posted by others or mine on a different pc...

                        No problem for you or I however Parsonsk seems to need our help ... to post photo’s you select edit then attachment and upload from your photo library the select upload and then save !

                          I know how it's supposed to work but I cannot see your attached file, when I click I get the message:
