    Hi,

I'm trying to understand the difference between these two products. I am wanting to output to an ultrarendu via Roon

I would also ideally like to have streaming options including Tidal and Spotify.

I am new the whole music/networking technology and one thing that confuses me is how to get a stream into these boxes. Wouldn't you need two Ethernet connection points. One in from your router and one out to your ultrarendu?

    Cheers,
    Stefan

I have several vortexbox servers and also a SonicTransporter (ST). The ST does not run Vortexbox system. It does run a roon server and also LMS and other things. The Vortexbox_roon appears to be a Vortexbox system that also has the Roon server installed, but I can't be sure (although this is certainly doable). If you run Roon, it integrates with TIDAL. But no other streaming service (yet). LMS works with TIDAL or SPOTIFY or other services. the Ultrarendu can serve as a ROON endpoint but it can also run Squeezelite to serve as a LMS endpoint.

Yes, you'll need to connect the VB or the ST to your router, via ethernet. (it can be placed anywhere....back closet, basement, etc.). The ultrarendu will be also connected via ethernet and will need to be near your stereo system, as the ultrarendu will then feed your preamp/amp.

I run Roon Core on my Vortexbox's. That is straightforwards and seems to work well. I don't stream but Roon does work with Tidal, I believe that LMS on the Vortexbox will work with Spotify (if you have a subscription, not the free service) with a suitable LMS plugin. Your Vortexbox, Roon Core (which can be installed on the Vortexbox or be a seperate unit) and any Roon endpoints will all need a network connection from your home network router or switch. Many Roon users seem to use a RasberryPi as an endpoint to connect to a Dac. The Ultrarendu is an alternative (but more expensive).

        Hi Stefan

If you contact VortexBox (Australia) on [email protected], they'll be happy to explain the difference to you.

        Regards,

        Peter
