  • dBpowerAmp on Linux

    .
    .
I really prefer dBpowerAmp for ripping CDs. I have used it for years, but I am getting away from ALL Windows platforms. Is anybody on the Forum using the Linux version of dBpowerAmp? Is the GUI the same as the Windows version? Is the ease of use the same? Most of these questions are for those that have used both, but even if you haven't used both and only used the Linux version, I would still like to get your take. Anything you don't like about dBpowerAmp on Linux?

Comments, thoughts, feeling, likes, dislikes, anything.

    Thanks.

Never heard of dBpowerAmp before and looked for it in Synaptic. Not included on my distro. I use for ripping a program called Asunder. it is an excellent CD ripper with a variety of settings.

I'm also a long time user of dBpA but never on linux. You may want to try asking on their forum...

edit: Do they have a version for Linux?? I don't see that option on their site....just Windows and Mac

That is part of the reason I asked about Linux. I spoke to Spoons years ago about Mac and he said probably never and forget about Linux, but now there is a direct download for Mac. Having said that this from their website software change log:

        September 2016

Windows 10 Anniversary update is wiping dBpoweramp (and Asset) settings, see how to preserve

Asset R5 for OS X, Linux and QNAP, now released (with DSD support)

        December 2016

Asset R5.1 for OS X, QNAP, Pi, Linux. Change Log.

Both September and December mention Linux. Wish I could find Spoons email address again. But that is a good idea to ask on the dBpowerAmp Forum (can't remember my password from 15 years ago and don't have that email address anymore to use the reset!). Guess it's time for a new username over there.

I think this what I am looking for:

Debian Linux Linux Install Instructions Configuration Manual

          Intel Debian x86 Release 5.1.1

Intel Debian 64 bit Release 5.1.1

Wonder why this isn't right up front with the Windows and Mac versions? I'll give this a try and see how it works and what it looks like. Thanks for the feedback and jogging my foggy memory! Special hat tip to GaryM over on the Slim Devices Forum. Thanks to all.

Isn't that just for Asset, their server program? Don't see anything for the ripper.

Thanks. What version of Linux are you using with Wine and dBpowerAmp?
On one of my old PCs, I found Spoon's emails from 11 years ago when I asked about Mac and Linux versions. Back then he said because dBpowerAmp would run under Wine, there probably wouldn't ever be a Linux install version.

I think I will put TrueOS on one of my old PCs and see if the Mac version will run under that OS, having Wine as my fallback.

Ubuntu since 12.04 - currently 17.04; the cdripper is v16.X ; Wine is from the ppa.
The only things I had to adapt were mount point in fstab and the type of the cd in dbpoweramp itself. There are occasionally issues with the eject button of dbpoweramp not always properly working.
