I came upon this thread after revisiting VortexBox after some discussions in the SqueezeBox wiki over the weekend.
I had an older VM of VB still on my server so I fired it up, and was pretty impressed, but noticed that it is still only using Fedora 23.

I saw in this thread a post 03-20-2017, 05:41 PM from AGILLIS stating to expect updates every 4th or 5th release.
Since Fedora 29 was just released, just wondering if there are still plans for an update, or is VortexBox considered at end-of-life at this point?

Co-incidentally today I was looking to upgrade Plex Server via the command line but the Plex site says "Fedora 64-bit (RPM for Fedora 24 or newer)" for the latest version 1.14.0.5470-9d51fdfaa. While I'm sure I can find an older version of Plex (although I don't know which version would be compatible with VB2.4/Fedora 23), I would be good to be current. Before obsolescence becomes a bigger issue, could we have a VB update please? Many thanks - its been a great piece of software over the years.

I'll second the request from kingswindsor. I need to update Plex but have hit a dead-end because my Vortexbox Fedora version is too old. I love my Vortexbox and have been running it for many years, but I need a platform that will let me run some more recent app updates. Thanks!

I hope that an updated version is still in the works. It’s been over 3 years since version 2.4 was released. I’d be happy to be a beta tester...

Tried to install VB on a Gigabyte J3455, but it won't. Fedora 29 will install on that motherboard. So please provide the community with an updated VB version.
Thanks for all the previous versions.

See https://www.vortexbox.org/forum/main...=1441#post1441 - It has been coming since at least January.

So the current version of Plex no longer works and the current version of MakeMKV no longer works on the current VortexBox.

I too love my VB and hope it will continue to have a life with current software.

@AGILLIS: I'd be happy to pay for Premium Support. Maybe $119 for a lifetime membership?

I guess a direct question for Andrew: Are there still plans for further updates to the Vortexbox software? The current version based on Fedora 23 was released in November of 2015 and Andrew stated he updates every 4th or 5th release which would have been either Fedora 27 (released 11-14-17) or Fedora 28 (released 5-1-18). The current release of Fedora is version 29 released on 10-30-18 and we are approaching version 30 scheduled to be released on or about 4-30-19. Version 30 would make the version that Vortexbox used 7 generations old.

Also, Vortexbox 23 uses a copy of Logitech's LMS 7.1 software dated 04/04/18 and Logitech (Michael) is currently working with LMS version 7.2 which has many updates over 7.1. I see that Andrew has a unreleased version of Vortexbox based on Fedora 25 that has a copy of LMS 7.1 dated 12/07/18 but again was never released.

Besides any Fedora security updates we are missing, the Vortexbox 23 version of LMS no longer works correctly with Microsoft Edge browser and I am sure there are other problems with the versions we are using. Michael was aware of the Edge issue and I understand it is fixed in newer version of LMS however I had to switch to Google Chrome to continue to use the Vortexbox version of LMS.

Andrew indicated a year or more ago that new updates would come but since than no further information has surfaced. So, I ask again, are there plans for future version of the great Vortexbox software and if so can we get some idea as to an actual timeline? If the product has reached the end of the line I would rather know than continuing to wait for a new version that will never come.

                    Thanks,

                    Mr. Bill

I've used Vortexbox almost since the first release. I think its an incredible piece of software and I use it almost daily. It would be a great shame to see it die through lack of updating. I know that Andrew runs his Small Green Computer business and like all of us he needs to make a living. Unfortunately our 'day jobs' take much of our time and time to develop software is limited. Many of the opensource software such as VB providers have a 'donate' button on their pages. If I find the software useful I always donate and if its really excellent (such as VB) I donate generously. Perhaps Andrew should consider this approach since it may enable him to earn sufficient cash to, in part at least, substitute for a day job. Examples of donate music related software I donate to ; PiCorePlayer, MP3TAG, RTA, Arta, Bliss............

I agree. And also contribute to mp3tag and PiCorePlayer.

+1 from me. I'd willingly donate. Vortexbox is an excellent and unique set of software.

Following post #21 I see the packages have been modified on Feb 1st - the last time I checked the modified date was Dec 12th; is there some hope of an official release at some stage?
