Hi. I'm planning to buy a board that has a multi channel analog audio out 5.1 or 7.1. Is it possible to create 2 or 3 squeeze players, by using the surround outputs? If anyone is aware please advise. Thanks.

First, I have never done or tried this. So I am taking a SWAQ at what you Might run into. Usually the device profiles see a card as One Unit hence one player. In other words I do not know if when assigning Soft Players if the GUI will allow you to drill all the way down to say PCI One, Surround Rears, named Soft Player One. So if I had to guess, my guess would be the board would show as only one Soft Player. I remember somebody asking about multi-channel 5.1 files being able to be played if sent to the card in the PC and IIRC the answer was yes as in if the card was defined as Soft Player X and that the multi-channel data was sent to Player X and was capable of multi-channel one could have multi-channel output.

Didn't know what would happen but I tried it, using the comprehensive instructions at http://www.vortexbox.com.au/HowTos/squeezelite.html.
Here's the result of squeezelite -l for my system:
[[email protected] ~]# squeezelite -l

The first test player I created was related to surround 2.1: surround21:CARD=USB,DEV=0 - that did not work.
What did work was player_test2, front:CARD=USB,DEV=0
player_test2 worked.
