  • Tidal, ickStream, and Vortexbox

Is anybody using Tidal for their streaming source? And if yes, which way are you integrating it into your system? Are there only two solutions with either Roon and Tidal or ickStream and Tidal?

    Feedback, thoughts, suggestions?

I tested a Bubble Upnp Server (on a PC, not my vortexbox) which takes a DNLA compliant network streamer and makes it OpenHome protocol compliant. You set this up on the software side. It works as a bridge from Open Home to DNLA. Then I downloaded the Lumin control app (Lumin makes high end Open Home compliant Audio Streamers, but the app is free). This app works with Tidal. In the setup of the Lumin app I selected the OpenHome Device (which was setup with BubbleUpnp) and setup Tidal Streaming. It worked great. I was able to relay Tidal music to my Naim UnitiQute which is an early version ans does not support Tidal natively. I was only on a Tidal trail and did not continue after the trial so I am no longer doing this, but that was a financial decision not a technical one.

Bubble has a linux version so it should be able to be installed on vortexbox. In fact, I'd love to see it integrated like Mimserver.

There's an official Logitech Tidal plugin now. Early on one needed ickstream, but I don't think that's currently required. (I don't currently use Tidal.)

EDIT: And similar to using Spotify, I believe you have to install the APP for Tidal (at mysqueezebox.com) as well as the TIDAL plugin in LMS. And one needs the Tidal Premium or HiFi subscription to work with squeezeboxes.

I have been curious about tidal so I followed garym's thread. I went to Tidal set up a trial high res account, made sure Tidal was checked off in LMS pluggins and entered my Tidal login in mysqueezebox.com. Tidal appeared in iPeng and I was streaming in 10 min.
