  • VortexBox 2.5 BETA

We officially released VortexBox 2.5 BETA today. Some people have been testing it over the past few months and it seems to be working well.

The best way to install it is to do a clean install from the zip file available here

    https://wiki.vortexbox.org/available_images

Some other users have gotten upgrades to work but this has not been tested and may or may not work. More info on that in this thread.

If you install the Beta, will you have to go through the whole data/media restore process when there is a GA version ? I seem to recall that was the case in previous release(s).

Tried the ova file of the beta version in virtualbox. Installed Plex and added some music by accessing the vortexbox with dolphin networking and everything seems to work well.
Hope the final version works as well.

I used the UPGRADE instructions and it appears to have worked perfectly -- including new LMS 7.9.2, BLISS 20190301 and Plex 1.14.1
                • Ran dnf install dnf-plugin-system-upgrade
                • Ran dnf system-upgrade download --refresh --releasever=25
                • Ran dnf system-upgrade reboot
                • Ran dnf -y update
                System name: vortexbox
                VortexBox SW Version: 2.5
Linux OS Version: Fedora release 25 (Twenty Five)

                Dell Optiplex 7010 i5-3.2Ghz 4GB

I removed my USB Backup drive for the update but left these "untouched"
                • 256GB SSD WD Boot Drive
                • 8TB WD /STORAGE Drive
                Thank you, thank you !!!

This is wonderful news, I was really worried Vortexbox was dead! Somehow I cobbled together the Fedora upgrade to 25 but obviously not official. Thank you for this release!

edited to add: when I look at my vortexbox launch page, I see that it already says VortexBox SW Version: 2.5 and Linux OS Version: Fedora release 25 (Twenty Five), so maybe my cobble from some time back has gotten me most of the way there. My continued thanks!

I too was able to upgrade using these commands with the same result, although I don't use Bliss. I did need to start LMS at the CLI using ...
                    Code:

                     systemctl start squeezeboxserver

Before GA, hopefully you can look at MakeMKV, per:
                              https://www.vortexbox.org/forum/supp...e-ripping-dvds

Thanks for all the work to keep this alive and well!
I'd be happy to pay a lifetime support fee like Bliss, MakeMKV or Plex.
